The Moorgate Project
Ropemaker Place, Moorgate is a 25 storey commercial building in the City of London with 1850m2 of roof garden terraces. This being one of many aspects of the building that contribute to it being both BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ and the first building in the City of London to achieve Platinum LEED rating
Europlanters are proud to have been involved in this project along with Arc Waterproofing, Urban Roofscapes, Skanska and MAKE Architects
The project included planters and benches for five ascending landscaped garden terraces which cover the majority of the available roof, providing a balance between public amenity for the building’s occupants and as a bio-diverse habitat.
Still rare in City architecture, these spaces support the greening of buildings and their associated social, environmental and biological advantages. Planting was selected to reflect the changing seasons and included native and non-native species.
In excess of 500 large GRP planter sections and panels were made to make a total of 37 large planting beds on various levels of the building. Some with recess panels for lights and access panels which were sprayed to match. These were manufactured in the Europlanters factory in Stockport along with over 100 metres of benches which were located on the planters.
In line with the sustainability values of this project, the planters were made using bio resin and finished in RAL 7021 matt paint to complement the façade of the building and all benches were made from FSC Iroko.
